Review - If you haven’t seen it yet, you'll be happy to know that even at full price, Sleepy Hollow won’t disappoint you.
Sufficiently creepy and layered Sleepy Hollow oozes character, style, and charm. There's so much atmosphere here that it’s easy to find yourself running from the Headless Horseman yourself. It's creepy and it's funny. It's charming and it's brutal. And it brings some of Disney's classic images to life.
Right outta the gate: Johnny Depp gives my favorite performance, both of the film & of his career, as Ichabod Crane. Eccentric, meticulous, and chicken I found Depp's Ichabod as endearing as the Disney cartoon character.
The rest of the cast is very charming and well suited. They include Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), Ian McDiarmid (Senator/Emperor Palpatine), Michael Gough, Christopher Lee (Dracula & Lord of the Rings' Saruman), Jeffery Jones (Bettlejuice & Ferris Beuller's Day Off), Christopher Walken (Needs no introduction), Pete Postilthwaite (Romeo & Juliet & The Usual Suspects), Martin Landau (Ed Wood & Space: 1999)
And Danny Elfman (The Prince who will be King of film scores: Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas) helps Mr. Burton by delivering another unnerving Score. It raises the 'Creep' Factor a good couple notches.
The weakest aspect of the film is its rational for the incidents that plague Sleepy Hollow and the horror brought on the peoples there by the headless horseman. However, the performances of the film greatly out shadow even this 'not-so' trivial aspect of any GOOD film.
