One Line Review | - | It's one cool mission. |
Review - The tragedy of seeing so many movies is that nothing seems original. Mission Impossible-2 is not original, in fact, its borrowed elements from almost every action film or star in the book. However, none of that matters in the end because Tom Cruise & John Woo have tailor made MI-2 in order to showcase Cruise's ability to play any of our past action heroes and Woo's ability to make Cruise look the part. And I'll be damned if it doesn't work.
We've got Cruise as James Bond, as Neo (The Matrix), Jet Li, and Stallone's character from Cliffhanger. He's even Jean-Claude VanDamme, Bruce Lee, Rocky, and maybe just a pinch of Luke Skywalker. I'm not kidding.
MI-2 is not chock full of fast edits and shaky cameras. Woo puts you right in the thick of things and Tom has no hang-ups about being a stunt man. They definitely want to impress their audience and they seem to have a grasp on how to do just that. They spared no expense.
In the end, if it all sounds like a 'shit-sandwich' to you; I'll tell you what, you're not far off but it is "Pretty damn tasty".
